Yes, your uHoo needs a constant Wi-Fi connection in order to operate.
If you check the logs of your Wi-Fi router, you will see that the uHoo will disconnect and reconnect every minute. This is part of the energy savings feature of the uHoo. While in operation, the uHoo will continuously sense your air quality. However, the Wi-Fi chip of your uHoo will go to sleep after it sends the data to the uHoo cloud. The sequence every minute, on average, is as follows:
- The uHoo sends data to the uHoo Cloud.
- The uHoo Wi-Fi chip will disconnect from your Wi-Fi network and go to sleep.
- The uHoo continues to sense your air.
- At the approximately 50 second mark, your uHoo’s Wi-Fi will wake up, connect to your Wi-Fi network, send the information to the uHoo Cloud and go back to sleep.
- The cycle repeats every minute.
The uHoo device shows various light colors as you go through the setup process. Please refer to this article to guide you through your setup and use.
You don’t need to manually update the firmware. Your uHoo checks for new firmware updates every 24 hours and will automatically download and update itself if an update is available.
To connect your device to a different Wi-Fi network, you would need to reset your uHoo and set it up with the new network. You can read this article to understand how to reset your uHoo.
Yes, you can connect your uHoo to your mobile hotspot. However, this option is only available if you’ve already successfully setup your uHoo with an existing Wi-Fi network. If it is a brand new device that has never been setup, this option will not work. You can read how to do this on this article.
The gas sensors (carbon dioxide, VOC, nitrogen dioxide and ozone) require a warm up period during first time use. The carbon dioxide sensor requires at least 48 hours of continuous use for it to complete the warm up, while the VOC, nitrogen dioxide and ozone sensors require at least 24 hours of continuous use.
If the warm up is interrupted (device turned off, power failure or lower fluctuation), the warmup will restart from the beginning and will need another 48 hours or 24 hours, depending on which gas sensor. This warm up needs to be conducted only once.
During the warmup period, the readings will fluctuate and you can ignore the data. Once the warmup is completed, your readings will automatically adjust.
Your uHoo also has auto calibration technology. This technology was developed to ensure the long term performance of the sensors. Auto-calibration happens every 168 hours of continuous use. The CO2 sensor would need at most 3 cycles of auto calibration to achieve full accuracy. Whenever the device is switched off then switched back on, the VOC, nitrogen dioxide and ozone sensors will only start sensing your air after 30 minutes. During the first 30 minutes, they will remain at very low levels.
The reset button deletes the Wi-Fi network stored in the device, and brings your uHoo back to set up mode so you can connect it to a different Wi-Fi network.
No, it won’t. Resetting your uHoo will not reset your uHoo account in the uHoo app and will not delete your historical data. The reset button mainly deletes the Wi-Fi network stored inside your device and brings the device back to setup mode.
Please email us at support@getuhoo.com with a description of your issue, screenshot of the error message on the app, your uHoo Account email and the MAC address of your device.

uHoo Aura is the most comprehensive indoor air and environment monitoring and management solution. It measures at least 13 environmental parameters, and expandable up to 15 depending on your needs and requirments. You get access to real-time and historical data of all these parameters, get alerts when thresholds are exceeded and integrate with building systems to automate heating, cooling and ventilation. All these capabilities help businesses and building owners establish effective action plans toward safer, healthier and more sustainable work environments.
Sensor technology captures indoor air quality information through the chemical, physical and/or biological property quantities and converts them into readable measurements. uHoo Aura’s sensor technology is indicated below:
- Temperature – Micro-electromechanical system (MEMs)
- Humidity – Micro-electromechanical system (MEMs)
- Air Pressure – Micro-electromechanical system (MEMs)
- PM1 – Laser scattering
- PM2.5 – Laser scattering
- PM4 – Laser scattering
- PM10 – Laser scattering
- TVOC – Metal-oxide
- Carbon dioxide – Dual-channel NDIR
- Carbon monoxide – Electrochemical
- Formaldehyde – Electrochemical
- Light – Ambient light sensing
- Sound – Digital MEMs microphone
MCERTS or Monitoring Certification Scheme is a certification program provided by the UK Environment Agency. This certification scheme is established to ensure that the data monitoring processes and measurements for organizations, personnel and equipment are accurate and at sufficiently high standard. The uHoo Aura’s particle sensor for 2.5 microns is MCERTS certified, which gives the entire product an additional layer of reliability and a competitive edge against other brands in the market.
The device’s life varies on how it is handled by the user and whether it is used as intended. Exposing it to polluted environments reduces the lifespan of the sensors. However, with proper handling, uHoo Aura users can expect it to last for five years. Nonetheless, the uHoo Aura has a patented modular design. If the sensors in the module drifts or becomes faulty, you don’t need to replace the entire device. You can just purchase a sensor module to replace the existing sensor that is already faulty. This is much more environmentally and economical than replacing the entire uHoo Aura.
uHoo Aura is the most comprehensive indoor environmental sensor that allows businesses to get reliable measurements on the factors affecting their indoor environment. By having accurate details about a facility’s indoor environment, businesses can develop strategies to effectively address possible issues, establish trust, increase productivity and safeguard its customers and employees from the risk of airborne ailments, such as the coronavirus. Moreover, implementing indoor air quality strategies with uHoo Aura can help buildings garner points necessary to achieve green building certifications such as LEED, WELL, RESET and Fitwel.

The uHoo Aura requires a uHoo Business account to operate. This account shall be created before uHoo Aura users can access the uHoo Business app and view the dashboard.
uHoo Aura monitors at least 13 different indoor environmental parameters – temperature, relative humidity, carbon dioxide, various particle sizes (PM10, PM4, PM2.5, PM1), carbon monoxide, formaldehyde, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), air pressure, light, and sound – and is expandable up to 15 depending on custom parameters that you require.
A simplified dashboard provides a consolidated view of all the devices in the different locations. Email and push notification alerts can be set up to help users prioritize and take action on specific air quality-related issues in the facility.
The readings tend to be quite similar at lower PM concentration, but not so at higher concentration. Particulates are made up of various sizes of particles and their distribution is usually even unless created by a specific source
Without an anti-slip mat underneath the device, the entire bottom can rest on the table. You can also use the desk stand to act as a supplementary support if you need it. If there is an anti-slip mat under the device and the desk stand is fully slotted into the groove, you can simply tilt the device until its weight falls onto the desk stand, which acts as the main support.
There are preset thresholds available in the dashboard after registering the uHoo Aura on your account. You can customize the thresholds based on your country’s standards or sustainability certification standards that you’d like to adhere to or based on your own preference.
Air Quality Index or AQI is a system used for reporting air quality on a daily basis. This measures the effects of air pollution in a location within a short period and raises awareness on the effects of air quality on human health. The higher the AQI, the more polluted the air is and the greater health risks exist.
uHoo logs all the measurements every minute. All the historical data can be accessed and viewed on the uHoo application. However, downloading the data can only be done with a uHoo Business account.
The uHoo Aura device is developed with high performing sensors and state-of-the art technology, making indoor air quality readings reliable and accurate. To get more information on the device’s design and materials, Learn more about uHoo Aura’s design and materials.
