Feeling overwhelmed with your clutter at home? All you need is a little decluttering and tidying up!

Despite what you may think, decluttering doesn’t take that much time and effort—as long as you know the efficient way to do it. Here’s a handy checklist of things to let go of to get you started!

First things first, dedicate time to decluttering

Like most tasks, decluttering and tidying up requires time and focus. We recommend dedicating one of your weekends to this. Make sure though that you take enough breaks and that you set a time cap so you don’t end up completely exhausted in the end.

Focus on one room at a time

Don’t tackle your house in one go. It’ll be more manageable for you to go from room to room, sorting things out in each and making sure everything is already in order before you move on to the next.

What are items that I should let go of?

Here’s a list of things to declutter for a cleaner home:

  • Anything you no longer use or need
  • Anything you no longer love
  • Any makeup, skincare, ingredient, or pantry item that’s expired
  • Paper clutter (receipts, old photos, paper bags, notebooks, greeting cards, etc.)
  • Books you know you won’t read
  • Anything that there’s a duplicate of
  • Extra mugs, tumblers, utensils, or dishes
  • Clothes you haven’t worn in months, that don’t fit you anymore, or have holes
  • Old electronic devices and tech accessories

Of course, this is only a quick checklist and there are much more comprehensive ones you can find online. But having this list is handy to know exactly what kind of clutter you’re looking for and need to get rid of as soon as possible.

Remember: if you don’t feel good about throwing something away, you can always gift it to someone else, sell it, or donate it. Don’t fall into the trap of having a “maybe” pile—it’s either “keep” or “let go!”

Having a good storage solution will also help you organize your home better once you’ve decluttered it. Most importantly: reward yourself for any progress you make!
