Tokyo — uHoo, a company specializing in the visualization and analysis of indoor environmental data, including indoor air quality (IAQ), has collaborated with East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and JR East Urban Development Corporation to conduct a pilot project exploring the potential use of indoor environmental data at facilities associated with the JR East Group.
Overview of the Pilot Project
In this initiative, uHoo’s indoor environmental monitoring technology was introduced at the following facilities:
- JR East: a co-working space located in the Takanawa Gateway area,
Link Scholars’ Hub (LiSH)
JR East Urban Development: common areas of employee housing and shared housing facilities
By continuously collecting and visualizing data such as indoor air quality, temperature, and humidity, the project examined potential applications of environmental data in facility operations and residential environments.
Key Observations
Through this pilot project, the following insights were obtained:
- Indoor environmental data can serve as an effective means of providing information that enhances users’ and residents’ understanding of their indoor environment
- Actions aimed at improving the environment can be observed as changes in indoor environmental data
- At the co-working space, the effectiveness of utilizing data in facility management was confirmed
- In the common areas of employee housing and shared housing, baseline data was obtained that can support understanding of the residential environment and future operational considerations
Next Steps
Based on the findings from this pilot project, the JR East Group will continue to examine the potential use of indoor environmental data in future facility operations and environmental initiatives.
