Examining wellbeing and sustainability through real-time IAQ data
Tokyo, Japan — uHoo, a company specializing in the visualization and analysis of indoor environmental data, is collaborating with East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and JR East Urban Development Corporation. The project is being conducted at facilities operated by, or associated with, the JR East Group to explore potential applications of indoor environmental data.
This project aims to gain a more accurate understanding of indoor environmental conditions and to examine how indoor environmental data may contribute to facility operations that take wellbeing and sustainability into consideration.
Overview of the Project
In this pilot project, uHoo’s indoor environmental monitoring technology has been introduced at the following locations:
- JR East: TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY, Link Scholars’ Hub (LiSH), a business creation facility within TAKANAWA GATEWAY CITY.
- JR East Urban Development Corporation: Employee housing, as well as common areas of a shared housing facility located in the Higashi-Nakano area
Indoor environmental data is being continuously collected and visualized, and its potential use is being examined in both facility management and residential contexts.
Key Findings from the Project
The key points of the project are listed below:
- uHoo’s dashboard and display interfaces were found to be effective tools for clearly communicating indoor environmental conditions to users and residents
- Efforts to improve the environment, such as ventilation measures, could be observed as measurable changes in the collected data
- In the operation of a business and innovation-oriented facility, the use of data may serve as a reference for operational decision-making and contribute to improvements in the indoor environment
- In the common areas of employee housing and shared housing, baseline environmental data was obtained, supporting an understanding of living conditions and future operational considerations
These findings indicate that indoor environmental data, when clearly visualized and shared, serves as useful reference information for maintaining comfortable and appropriate indoor environments.
Future Outlook
Based on the results of this project, the JR East Group plans to further examine potential applications of indoor environmental data in future facility operations and environmental initiatives.
uHoo will continue to collaborate with the JR East Group to support the creation of indoor environments that consider both occupant wellbeing and sustainability.
