Are you on your way to secure your RESET certification?
Here at uHoo, we collected every essential thing that you need to know and understand to make your building RESET-certified!
What is RESET certification?
RESET, which stands for “Regenerative Ecological Sustainable Ecosystem Technology” is the world’s first sensor-based and performance-driven program that focuses on data quality and data transparency to help built environments become healthy and sustainable.
For RESET, we cannot effectively solve what we cannot measure and that data is essential to building awareness and discovering optimal solutions to our problems.
RESET consists of five stand-alone standards, such as RESET Embodied, RESET Water, RESET Waste, RESET Energy, and RESET Air.
Why focus on RESET Air certification?
The RESET Air Standard is a data standard for air quality monitoring. It is designed to promote healthy indoor environments by measuring and monitoring key air quality indicators, such as PM 2.5, total volatile organic compounds, carbon dioxide, temperature, humidity, and carbon monoxide.
The RESET Air Standard is applicable to two different projects, the Commercial Interiors and Core & Shell.
RESET Air for Commercial Interiors (CI) focuses on the air quality performance of interior spaces. It monitors and communicates the quality of air breathed by building occupants.
For Commercial Interior projects, there are two levels of performance when achieving RESET Air certification – the Acceptable targets and High-Performance targets.
According to RESET, Acceptable targets are requisite; all projects must meet the defined limits. High-Performance targets are listed as a reference for projects striving for more rigorous IAQ goals and/or for projects located in regions where ambient outdoor air quality levels typically stay within recommended health limits.
- PM2.5 – RESET sets the target level for PM2.5 indoors below 35 μg/m3. For High-Performance targets, it should not exceed 12 μg/m3.
- TVOCs – RESET’s ideal level for TVOCs is below 500 μg/m3, and for High-Performance targets, it is below 400 μg/m3.
- Carbon Dioxide – RESET sets the level for CO2 to be below 1,000 ppm, and below 600 ppm for High-Performance targets.
- Temperature and Humidity – RESET does not have any specific requirements for temperature and humidity but both must be continuously monitored as these factors can greatly influence the sensor readings for PM2.5 and TVOCs.
- Carbon Monoxide – RESET strictly recommends maintaining CO levels lower than 9 ppm, and CO monitors are required only in indoor spaces with combustion such as boiler rooms, warehouses, breweries, petroleum refineries, mines, and steel production sites.
RESET Air for Core & Shell (CS) targets the air quality performance in mechanical air systems or HVACs. It monitors and communicates the quality of the air being by the building’s mechanical air and HVAC systems.
- PM2.5 – RESET Air requires PM 2.5 to be below 12 μg/m3 or greater than 75(%) reduction
- TVOCs – less than 400 μg/m3
- Carbon Dioxide – less than 800 ppm
- Temperature and Humidity – Temperature and humidity but both must be continuously monitored as these factors can greatly impact PM2.5 and TVOCs.
RESET certification requirements
RESET certification can be easily attainable when building projects follow the below requirements:
- Monitoring air quality factors and keeping them in the limits set by RESET.
-
Pass 3 consecutive months of assessment. If the project fails during one of the three months, the project will have to restart the test.
- Use of accredited air quality monitor and data provider.
RESET certification process
Phase 1: Registration
This includes the project’s basic information, terms and service agreements, and payment of fees.
Phase 2: Pre-deployment Documentation Review
This phase ensures that a building project’s proposed monitor deployment strategy meets the RESET Air’s requirements. All monitors to be used must be Grade A or Grade B RESET™ Air Accredited Monitors and that the data provider must be an Accredited Data Provider.
Phase 3: Site Audit
This ensures a project’s compliance with all the monitor, data provider, and installation requirements set by RESET.
Phase 4: The Data Audit
This phase involves the submission of data to the RESET Assessment Cloud. When the data successfully passed all the conditions for 3 consecutive months, the building project will then be RESET Air-certified.
Phase 5: RESET Certified
RESET certification has been secured under this phase. RESET Air-certified projects are required to recertify annually. All the requirements and IAQ results shall be maintained in order to maintain the certification.
Benefits of Becoming RESET Air-certified
- Improved indoor air quality (IAQ)
The primary benefit of RESET Air certification is improved IAQ, which can help to promote occupant health, well-being, and productivity.
- Increased building value
Buildings that are certified to the RESET Air standard may have a higher value and may be more attractive to tenants, investors, and other stakeholders who prioritize healthy indoor environments.
- Improved energy efficiency
Many of the IAQ parameters monitored by RESET Air, such as CO2 levels, are also indicators of energy efficiency. Improving IAQ can help to reduce energy consumption and costs.
- Compliance with building codes and regulations
RESET Air certification can help to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations related to IAQ, such as those set by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Recognition and promotion
RESET Air-certified buildings are recognized internationally and may be promoted as examples of sustainable building practices and healthy indoor environments.
- Continuous improvement
RESET Air certification requires ongoing monitoring and reporting of IAQ data, which can help building owners and operators to identify opportunities for continuous improvement of IAQ and overall building performance.
RESET Air certification provides a comprehensive and transparent approach to measuring, monitoring, and improving IAQ in buildings, which can benefit building occupants, owners, and operators alike.
